What is Eng's Notebook? Our Journey into Materials Science π
Hello! We’re Imesh Livinston and Manori Jayawardhana, two fourth-year students studying Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, the top engineering university in Sri Lanka. We’re super excited to welcome you to our very first article here on Eng's Notebook!
So, what’s this site all about?
In this space, we’re going to share our knowledge of Materials Science and Engineering with you. Our goal is to dive deep into the exciting world of materials science and talk about the projects we’ve worked on, the lessons we’ve learned, and how cool this field is.
In this space, we’ll cover some basic materials science theories while also sharing our personal experiences and the projects we’ve been involved in so far. We believe it’s important to be honest with you, so we’ll be transparent about both our successes and failures because both are crucial for growth and learning π‘. Along with that, we’ll provide insights into our ongoing projects and the results we’re achieving. We’ll keep you updated on what’s working, what’s not, and everything in between. Additionally, we’ll explore the exciting world of smart materials and future materials, discussing all the cutting-edge innovations that are set to transform the field of engineering in the coming years. Not only the experimental part, but we’re also going to discuss molecular dynamics simulations based on our experience to show how they can be used to uncover important mechanisms. As an example, we’ll explore how graphene oxide (GO) membranes adsorb heavy metals from wastewater and uncover the mechanisms behind this process.
But wait, there’s more! We’re also going to explore how technology is shaping our work. We’ll be working on some programming projects using Python π», incorporating basic knowledge and diving into machine learning concepts with the help of AI to solve real-world problems. Along the way, we’ll share our progress, insights, and results with you right here.
We want to create a community with you, so don’t forget to follow us on social media, drop us a comment, and share your ideas! Your feedback is super important as we continue this journey together. As part of this journey, we’re also focusing on writing some articles about how to use AI tools to improve efficiency.
We’re really excited about this, and we hope you are too! Thank you for reading. Have a great day! π
